CRUSHING ON COASTAL: THE ELEMENTS OF MODERN BEACH DESIGN
We aren’t the first people to profess a love for coastal style, and we certainly won’t be the last! What is it that draws so many of us to design that is "beachy beautiful"? Is it the soothing neutral hues or the light, bright spaces? Is it the heavy emphasis on natural elements that helps to bring the outdoors in? Or is it the suggestion of being far away and on permanent vacation time?!
For us, coastal style has changed over the years. It has moved from adding decorative accents like anchors, sea creatures and shell shaped vessels to infusing that shoreline vibe right into the major pieces in a room.
Start with a pale coloured sofa or bed...add an accent chair with light wood frame...build in a few occasional tables in weathered finish and TA DA! These key pieces form the foundation of a soothing, seaside-ish retreat.
Next, accent in blues and greens via ceramic or glass lamps, a couple of squishy feather pillows (subtle stripes are a great go-to), a piece of watery wall art and you’re almost there! Final touches include a deliciously textured rug (say yes to nubbly wool or woven jute), an organic shaped white vase with pampas grass, and a seagrass pouf or rustic wooden bowl.
Whether your angle is tropical, nautical or anything in between, timeless coastal design relies on classic lines, natural fibres, an air of easy relaxation and a strong connection with nature. Reach out if we can help you infuse your space with more modern coastal magic!
